When you picture poverty, you probably don’t picture a white-collar professional with three university degrees under their belt. The reality of modern poverty is that it is largely characterised by people who are working at least one job, but who are struggling to make ends meet nonetheless.
This week’s lesson is based on an article called Working but Still doing it Tough: The reality of Modern Poverty. It looks at the reality of poverty in the context of an increasingly casualised workforce and a rapidly riding cost of living.
Note that this article was written in 2017, long before the pandemic hit. We can really see the consequences of the situations outlined coming to a head now.
