The ukelele

The ukelele

(AN INTERMEDIATE LISTENING LESSON)

You are no doubt familiar with the ukelele – the small, cute guitar-like instrument that makes you feel like you are lying on a tropical beach somewhere. How much do you know about this instrument, though?

In this week’s lesson, we’re looking at the origins of the ukelele and how it got its name.

There are two main clips used in this lesson.

The first clip is a TED Ed video called Mysteries of Vernacular: Ukelele

The second is an interview with Billie Eilish about her love of the ukelele: Billie Eilish Signature Ukelele

At the end of the worksheet, I suggest three ukelele clips you can watch. I’ve linked them below:

I hope you enjoy this lesson!
