(AN ADVANCED READING LESSON)
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you would have heard about the riots sparked in the USA and around the world by the death of George Floyd.
Although the Black Lives Matter movement has been around for a long time, and racist police brutality is nothing new, the most recent events have dominated news headlines in a new and extraordinary way.
This lesson is based on an article published by ‘The Conversation’, which looks at how media reporting of protests can affect how the public perceives protests. You can find the article here: Riot or resistance? How media frames unrest in Minneapolis will shape public’s view of protest
I hope you find this article interesting, and that it helps you both read and talk about the protests.
I’d love to hear your thoughts about it.
Thanks,
Kerrin
