(AN ADVANCED READING LESSON)
Many of us were following the UEFA 2020 final between England and Italy, and celebrated along with Italy after they won in a penalty shootout.
However, this victory was somewhat soured in the aftermath, when the three English players who missed their penalty shootouts became the target of racial abuse by the English public.
It’s no secret that racism exists in sport, and that it is far more evident when teams lose.
This week’s lesson is based on an article from The Conversation called Racism in sport: why it comes to the surface when teams lose, and explores this issue in more depth.
I hope you find this lesson interesting, and have a rewarding experience discussing these challenging topics.
See you in the classroom.
