(AN ADVANCED READING LESSON)
In last week’s lesson, ‘Riot or Resistance?’, we read about how the language used in the media influences how people think about protests. Since then, I’m sure you’ve heard and read a lot about these demonstrations in the news.
This week’s lesson is based on on a BBC article that stood out to me this week amongst the other news stories. It’s about the Washington DC Mayor’s own small protest in the form of a public artwork.
Here’s the article: Defiant DC Mayor names plaza ‘Black Lives Matter’
Let me know how you go with the reading. If you’d like to do a little bit of listening on the topic once you’re done, here’s a short podcast featuring Mayor Bowser.
All the best,
Kerrin
